Happy Women’s History Month!

To celebrate, we want to highlight an extraordinary female figure in women’s history and women at Entourage Yearbooks.

One of the most influential women in early American publishing was Elizabeth Timothy. Timothy took over the editor role for the South Carolina Gazette in 1738 after her husband died. While it was not unheard of for women to be editors of periodicals, it was definitely uncommon. When women took on these editorial positions, they often oversaw only women’s magazines.

Elizabeth Timothy was an influential part of the women’s movement as she worked to change traditional female roles. The influential women in this movement revolutionized the publishing and printing industry and improved women’s education. Ideas of what women could do outside of the home became a more relevant and prominent topic.

Women made an immense impact on the printing industry in the 1700s. This is highlighted by Elizabeth Timothy’s editorship of a regional publication. Timothy propelled women’s credibility in the industry by choosing to print various topics. She published U.S. and European news, poetry, and original fiction.

South Carolina recognized Timothy in 1973 when they inducted her into the South Carolina Press Association Hall of Fame. South Carolina continued to honor her in 2000 when she joined the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame.

The tradition of powerful women in printing that Elizabeth Timothy helped establish continues to this day. At Entourage Yearbooks, we are happy to say that we have some terrific staff who follow Elizabeth Timothy’s example. Let us introduce a few of them:

Ellen Sillery Dobro is one of our Senior Account Managers and has been at Entourage since May 2007. This will be her 15th production season! She has been at Entourage since when we had a Manhatten office! Ellen has worked on many projects over the years, but one of her favorites is the specialty covers. She enjoys shopping for vendors and learning how to set up anything from foil and embossing to plexiglass, die cuts, and trapper keeper style covers. Ellen also loves working and visiting with the schools on site. When Ellen is not making your cover dreams come true, she also is a mother to Alex, her 5-year-old son. Ellen loves to draw and is currently learning new photography skills! Between Entourage travels and being a military kid, she has been to nearly every state. Ellen’s favorite aspect about working at Entourage is the real sense of being family and friends with our staff. She cannot wait to see everyone soon and meet everyone who has joined the crew!

Ana Ortiz is your California Manager! She started at Entourage Yearbooks in August of 2013 and has been a part of the Entourage family for 7 years. Helping Entourage grow in California has been one of her main focuses. Entourage was looking to expand and grow the business, and she was willing to take on the challenge. She enjoys seeing all the schools we have been able to make aware of our quality books, affordable prices, software, and exceptional customer service! Even though Ana loves helping you cement your memories through one of Entourage’s yearbooks, she also loves traveling and visiting new places. She is looking forward to many trips to come post-COVID. She loves spending time with friends and family, as well. Interacting with schools, advisors, students, and parents has been a truly wonderful experience for Ana. She likes to see all the love, effort, and time put into yearbook projects and helping customers capture all the memories that their students will cherish. Though she is miles away from the New Jersey home office, she has built many friendships, and Entourage has always felt like family to her!

Nicole Lipnitz is the Director of New Projects and Technology at Entourage Yearbooks. She started her journey in July 2010 and has worked here for 11 years. Nicole has been an integral part of designing EDOnline. When she began in 2010, there was no EDOnline, and she has been with this project from the start. Nicole has been through all 9 iterations and has been very involved with developing and changing the designer. When she is not giving you the tools to design your yearbook or decking out her life in pink, she has 2 littles, Joanna & Nathan, and they are her world! Being a mom and being incredible at Entourage is her life! She loves the family atmosphere at Entourage Yearbooks. She is grateful for the friendships she has made here that will last her a lifetime.
